It’s raining, I’m coming home from school and decide that pot roast sounds good for dinner. I stop by Old World Meats, pick up a roast and some potatoes, head home. Because of my detour, I had to take the highway instead of the nice normal streets I always take. I get about 5 minutes from home, sitting at a dead stop in the turn lane, and the fucking idiot in the giant SUV two cars back decides not to stop. They hit the other giant SUV behind me, which in turn hits me. You know what I really wanted to do today? Go face first into my steering wheel. I’m glad I got to do that, it was fun. Really. The big red mark on my cheekbone? Hot.
There was a MN State Patrol car sitting one car behind the SUV that hit the SUV that hit me. His name? D. Seuss. Seriously. He was really nice and didn’t even talk in rhyme (with a name like that he should have- then again maybe he does sometimes just to fuck with people, I know I would). Our conversation ended with him telling me I should apply for their open dispatch posistion~
I’m not convinced if I open my trunk it’ll close again. And the black scuff marks and the hole in my bumper, they just add character.
One of parties from the crash/fire was positively identified as David Allen Drain, 21, of Duluth, MN. The names of the other two won’t be released by the police department until they get a forensic dental specialist. This is because, to quote the Daily Telegram, “the fire burned the men beyond recognition.”
Obituaries for the other two in the crash were in the paper though, and funerals were held for them. They’re Joshua Aaron Jones, 22, of Barnum and Burgess J. “Jeb” Houska, 20, of Duluth.
They are all just so damn young.

One from last year I never got around to posting.

I went and bought flowers yesterday to go put by the white cross for the fatality victims. I’m not really sure why, it just felt like the right thing to do. Family or friends have left a posterboard with a picture, and some markers on it. Those who know the victims (their names still haven’t been released) have been signing the column they hit.

A solitary piece of burnt metal and some black dirt is all that remains of the crash. Most of it was washed off/away in the recent rain.
Full story here. This morning work was dragging. My partner and I were half asleep and the phone rings. This is what happens when dispatchers even think ‘I hope the whole morning isn’t this slow’. Basically a car hit a square piller of an overpass, burst into flames, and after the fire was out we found three people in the car.
Police and the Superior Fire Department were called out about 2:55 a.m. to Winter Street and the East Second Street/Highway 53 overpass on a report of a motor vehicle accident. The area is mostly industrial and has little traffic in the early morning hours.
Officers found a single vehicle had collided with a large support column for the bridge that was engulfed in flames. The Superior Fire Department put the fire out and discovered three people in the vehicle.
According to Superior Police Capt Chad La Lor, it appears the vehicle, a black 1990 Toyota Camry, was traveling eastbound on Winter Street when it struck the concrete bridge support and burst into flames on impact.
All three people were killed in the accident or the subsequent fire, La Lor said in a news release issued Saturday afternoon.
Two of the victims have been preliminary identified, but the identity of the third victim is not known. The names of the victims will not be released until positive identification is made and family has been notified.
